I have been a maker of woodwind instruments for 39 years. I started as an apprentice with T.W. Howarth in 1981 and stayed there for 22 years. My later roles at the company were workshop supervisor, keywork designer, instrument designer and production manager. Whilst there I designed 2 types of professional clarinet and re-designed the original one handed recorder. I moved to my own workshop to carry on my design and production work.
I now make a range of flutes for marching bands. I make keywork for Aafab recorders and continue to make one handed clarinets, one handed recorders and many custom adaptations for musicians of woodwind instruments. I have just completed a new one handed instrument and am waiting for the components to return. I have also completed anew design for an Eb clarinet. I have a great many years experience in the traditional methods of manufacture. I have an understanding of new ways to produce items but have no practical experience of what these machines can do.
