I am a London-based musician and engineer, originally from NE Scotland. I began learning the bagpipes at the age of 10, and have been playing ever since. In 2010 I moved to London to pursue a PhD programme in Media & Arts Technology at Queen Mary University.
My research examined technological approaches to assist in teaching and learning the Highland bagpipes, and led to the development of the P-bROCK digital bagpipe hardware and software system. Since completing the PhD in 2015,I have been collaborating with OHMI to produce an adapted version of the electronic chanter for one-handed musicians. So far, two young people in the UK have started learning with a prototype of the one-handed chanter, and I'm very keen to refine the interface and have it ready for production/delivery as soon as possible!
