This will be my first work as part of a large-scale team in accessible instrument design. I am excited to work with others who focus on accessibility in their design process so I can begin making these practices a regular part of my own work. I really love the bagpipes for this, expanding the variety and kinds of instruments for which access needs can be addressed. It's a very traditional instrument, of course, and I think providing different ways to interface with it and broaden its use is important both to musical and broader cultural interaction. I'm currently working on a PhD revolving around human-computer interaction in instrument design; as well, I work part time as musician and have experience performing with electronics, programming, and digital interface/app design. I hope to bring further balance to the technical and creative parts of this project and use my performance background to imagine new creative possibilities for the bagpipes.
